Yesterday I shared this personal thought on my FB Page and found it fitting to share it again on the blog as a prelude to this post:
".... photography is not just my job, it's my way of self-expression. Through my lens the world becomes a canvas, a story waiting to be told... and it's those stories am able to capture, the emotions that surround them, and the memories am able to create that make photography such an important part of my life..."

The reason I wanted to share this as an introduction to the post is precisely that I'm sharing my latest Newborn photo shoot with you. Newborns, the beginning of life... so much joy, love, expectation, excitement... there's nothing more precious than experiencing life, the birth of life... having the opportunity to capture memories for families at such a special moments in their lives fills me with joy! I know my photographs will not just be random clicks, but memories to last a lifetime. Families will be able to look back at them and smile, maybe even shed a happy tear while remembering those special days... I know I look at my children's pictures that way and am grateful to have carried my big bulky camera to capture them as they grow...

I want to thank all the families that have allowed me to capture those special times in their lives, and specially thank the R family (which you might remember from their Maternity Session back here), for this lovely session full of family love! You have a wonderful baby boy and a beautiful family! It was such a pleasure to shoot both your sessions!!!

Oh!!! And isn't that vintage FORD truck we used for the pictures just great!!!? Wish I had a selection of vintage cars to use for my sessions! Loved it! ... enjoy the pictures!!!

This week's I Heart Faces challenge consists of any picture that includes a human face, with the theme being "Best Face Photo from Summer 2011". The twist here is that the Guest Photographer Judges are going to be us! How fun getting to vote!

This is my submission, a picture I took right at the end of the summer. Love this little rascal who never fails to amuse us with his ingenious ideas and smile! Here he is playing some sort of detective with a magnifying glass (and curiously discovering how big things looked through the glass)! These are the days to cherish as parents... memories of our children being children, enjoying life, and discovering the world! Such a happy boy...!

A Touch of Sun | I Heart Faces Entry

For those of you who are not familiar with "I Heart Faces", this is a wonderful community for photographers of all levels (and photography enthusiast) to come share and learn. They have several weekly events like the Photo Challenge and Fix-It Fridays, which are a fun way to share, learn, and be seen.

I have been following this website for a while, but just last week made my first entry for their Fix-It Friday, and this would be my first entry to their weekly Photo Challenge. The theme for this week is "A Touch of Sun" and I decided to enter a picture of my most recent Maternity session which I loved! The entire session was sun light so the session fit this week theme perfectly!

Will be sharing the session on the blog shortly, but for now, this is a sneak and my entry to the weekly challenge!

Maternity sessions are always special. Getting to photograph expectant moms is so magical! Big Me, Little Me – Houston, TX Family Photography

Sooooo… I have been neglecting my blog. It’s been quite busy here between sessions, editing, and of course the family. Keeping up with work and housework when you have 3 kiddos can be at times challenging, but I think so far I’ve done a pretty good job (and of course have found myself editing session or doing dishes till the wee hours of the morning). Nevertheless, I promise to make an effort to keep the blog updated as much as possible. To start with here’s a little sneaky of a mini session at home. Love these pictures! Creamscicle

I’ve been away for a few months due to the birth of my youngest child (and some unfortunate health scares – though everyone is well now), but I’ve not put my camera down. Photography for me is much more than a profession or a hobby, it’s a form of communication and a way to record mine and my family’s life so in the future, we can help memory recreate special moments in time! Time goes by really fast and our children grow in the blink of an eye… it is my hope that in time my children will look back at the pictures I so much enjoy taking of them, and smile at the fond memories and all the love that comes with them!

As my children grow, I feel the urge to capture their individual personalities through my lens. There’s so much magic in the life of a child… it’s amazing what one can learn from them and the joy one can experience in loving them! So in an attempt to capture their personalities and record our early spring mornings at home, here are these pictures I took of my youngest ones! The result? A set of very “creamscicle” toned pictures! You know, those yummy orange and vanilla flavored popsicles (which I used to enjoy on endless spring and summer days with my parents and brothers…)! I absolutely love this pictures, and know I’ll look back in time and be grateful to have kept my camera in hand and have taken the time to snap these shots!

Hope everyone is enjoying this early Spring days!!! I know we are… and now, I’m off for a fun outdoorsy Sunday enjoying our new double stroller!

Launching my new Portraiture Website

With much joy and expectation I share this good news with you! After the birth of my second child just a few months ago, my husband and I decided it was best for me to stay home with the baby and dedicate more time to my photography, something I had been looking forward to for a long time. So while my business expands, I’ve started off with a website to show my portraiture/family photography work to my prospective clients. Little Pleasures - The Surf Lodge

Spring is just around the corner and all I seem to think about is a breezy, tropical retreat... afternoons by the beach, refreshing food, beautiful sunsets and my camera at hand. Of course food is a most these days with my occasional and very particular cravings, so watching "Top Chef" for the past couple of months became a great treat; unfortunately the season is over, but it got me thinking about past Top Chef competitors that were always on my "favorites" list. To my delight I found season 2 finalist, Sam Talbot, is now executive chef at The Surf Lodge, a wonderful surf-themed, laidback and very chic hotel-restaurant in Long Island - Montauk, NY.

After browsing through their website and reading several reviews I could not resist the urge to post on this fun and beautifully decorated place! The vive and decor are of course reminiscent of a surfing lodge but with tasteful and modern nautical touches: clean-line aesthetics and bright accent colors make this place so inviting… I absolutely love the “Director’s chairs” featured on the hotel’s deck and restaurant, the Eames turquoise molded plastic stools and rockers in the bar and den, chic rattan accents (very organic), and the simple yet warm-tranquil rooms.

Surfer or not, for a relaxing and fun weekend with lake view rooms, Chef Sam Talbot’s wonderful food, and at just a half a mile from the beach, “The Surf Lodge” sounds like the right place to visit this spring and summer. For now, I'll leave you with these pictures to enjoy; can’t wait to get a hold of The Surf Lodge menu to see what talented Executive Chef Sam Talbot will be offering for lunch and dinner this season! (don't know if the menu will stay the same, but here's is last year's for your delight!)

Food and Photography - Spring Cravings and "Thorsten Kraska"

We are beginning to enjoy a bit more of daylight and sun here and there, so I’ve anxiously started the countdown till the change of season! The expectation for spring has really gotten me in the mood for cooking, particularly European cuisine, the kind of food I loved while traveling and studying in Europe. I do have to admit, however, that the cravings might be in part pregnancy related since I am finally gaining my appetite back, but one thing or the other I am in the mood for some tapas, smoked salmon, croissants, mussels, muffins and tea, fresh fruit tarts (specially tart tatin), Mediterranean salads – the list could go on!

To my pleasure and luck, a few days ago I was browsing work by fellow artists on Flickr when I happened to come across a wonderful photographer, and dedicated chef, Thorsten Kraska. I was immediately taken by his inviting and beautifully composed food photography! What a treat! Thorsten showcases pictures of food that he cooks and styles for his lovely photographs forcing our salivary glands to overwork while craving.

Browsing his photostream transports you to a wonderful culinary experience and inspires you to cook and savor some delicious ingredients! I found the perfect fix for my spring cravings in his photography – so find your inspiration and plan an al fresco lunch or picnic to share delicious food with family and friends!

I want to thank Thorsten for allowing me to share these wonderful photographs with you! And for those who are already feeling the urge to cook (or savour food) here a couple of recipes for you to try; happy cooking!

Apple-Chard Quiche from Vegetarian Times

1 Tbs. olive oil
1 Tbs. unsalted butter
1 large Vidalia or other onion, thinly sliced
1 cup (4 oz.) shredded ruby Swiss chard
1 cup (about 2 oz.) thinly sliced mushrooms
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/2 cup chopped apple
2 Tbs. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 large eggs
1 cup shredded Jarlsberg cheese
1/2 cup skim milk
1 9-inch deep-dish pie crust, unbaked

Preheat oven to 375F. Heat oil and butter in large skillet over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, and sauté onions until caramelized, about 15 minutes. Add Swiss chard, mushrooms, salt and pepper. Increase heat to medium, and cook, stirring often, until mushrooms and chard are soft, about 7 minutes. Combine apples, flour and nutmeg in mixing bowl, and toss to coat apples. Combine eggs, cheese and milk in separate bowl, and beat until ingredients are well blended. Fold in apple mixture. Spoon chard mixture into pie crust. Pour egg-cheese-apple mixture over top. Bake 35 to 45 minutes, or until cheese mixture is set and top is browned. Cool slightly before slicing, and serve.

Steamed Mussels with Leeks, Garlic, Thyme, White Wine, and Butter - Tyler Florence for Food Network

3 pounds mussels
Extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons butter
2 leeks, white parts only, finely chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 bunch fresh thyme
1 cup white wine
1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Rinse the mussels under cold running water while scrubbing with a vegetable brush. Remove the stringy mussel beards with your thumb and index finger as you wash them. Discard any mussels with broken shells.

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the leeks, garlic, and thyme and cook until the vegetables cook down to a pulp, about 5 minutes. Add the mussels and give everything a good toss. Add the white wine. Cover and steam over medium-high heat for 10 minutes, until the mussels open. Stir occasionally so that all the mussels are in contact with the heat. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and a drizzle of olive oil to the sauce remaining in the pot and swirl to incorporate. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with the parsley and serve immediately.

Back again! Little Pleasures - The Viceroy Hotels

Well…… I have neglected my blog for quite some time, and I apologize to all my wonderful readers. I have not run out of inspiration and I’ve definitely missed my regular postings, but I had been down really sick (twice) and VERY nauseated for the past two months. Hence the photography, blog, and Etsy shop were left a little to the side while I took care of myself (and my family). Now down to the good news: yes indeed, I am pregnant and we couldn’t be any happier – elated, that is!!! I ask that you all keep us in your prayers and positive thoughts for a healthy pregnancy!

And back to the blog: even though I have not been posting I have accumulated ideas on beautiful, yummy, and inspiring things to share with you, and here is the first one. I have seen picture of this amazingly decorated hotels in several of my magazines (with wonderful reviews if I may say), so I navigated on their websites to find out for myself what the rave was all about. I am talking about the VICEROY Hotels (The Viceroy Santa Monica and The Viceroy Palm Springs)… and wow, I just fell in love with their interiors and exteriors! Not only are the hotel locations inviting already but the décor is to die for! Elegant, tasteful, creative, colorful, alluring… just what the doctor prescribed for a good dose of inspiring design and relaxation!

So the rooms are wonderful, and so are their restaurants… if only we could take time off our busy schedules (and save money in the midst of a troublesome economy) for a well deserved getaway! I can see myself enjoying in-room breakfast, getting a nice facial and pre-natal massage at the spa, enjoying the ocean views and gardens, dinning at Citron or Whist (the menus look sooo delicious), and why not, maybe even call it an early night to savor a restful night in one of their beautifully decorated bedrooms! Doesn’t it sound good? Just see for yourself and take a pick - Palm Springs or Santa Monica, it all sounds and looks great to me!

In honor of the new year to come I decided to make an all-year-round Treasury list that turned out to be a little harder than I thought, though I really love the final result: a vibrant and happy list! I had to make sure the color scheme was coherent throughout the Treasury while still trying to display 12 listings with an every-month-of-the-year theme. So here's the final result, from January to December we'll be Etsy pretty!

My apologies, I know I have not updated you as soon as I would have liked to, got back from my trip and was ridiculously busy between home, work, doctor's appointments... what one week away can bring! Anyway, I wanted to follow up with a post from my trip and some great black and white photography I shot in Spain. There's something about capturing everyday life in b&W, it seems to me like I am able to freeze time and permanently capture it in a photograph... very nostalgic.

Spain was truly wonderful and the best part is I was able to share this experience with my mom and some dear friends. We enjoyed every bit of it, the beautiful buildings, the amazing Churches and pilgrimage sites, the FOOD, the amazing company, and of course the photography! If you have never been to Spain, it certainly is a trip worth saving for. This time around we got a chance to visit beautiful Zaragoza, artistic Barcelona, up-in-the Mountains Montserrat, and even enjoy the winter-white Pyrenees (Spanish and French sides) to make a short stop in Lourdes.

Such an unforgettable experience! Would love to visit Spain again... in the meantime I have close to 3000 pictures to go through. I hope you enjoy these pictures! I will follow up with Travel Notes in Color... have a wonderful weekend!

Etsy Friends - Jill Rosenwald's Pottery and Ceramics

You might remember seeing a lovely cream and orange colored bowl by etsy seller JillRosenwald last week when I posted my “The Beat of Chic” Treasury. Well, for the past month I have been eyeing this lovely shop that sells oh-so-chic pottery and ceramics, with wonderful designs, colors, and beautiful clean lines... little did I know that behind such wonderful products was a wonderful lady as well! Let me introduce you to Jill Rosenwald (even though a lot of you surely already know her) the face behind etsy’s JillRosenwald and Boston-based Jill Rosenwald Studio.

Quite the entrepreneur, Jill began her creative work and business right out of college by selling handmade clay earrings in Soho, an idea which soon developed into a full pottery line. For over ten years she sold her beautiful pieces at high end retailers such as Barneys, ABC, Neiman Marcus, Gumps amongst others (WOW, right?). She recently downsized to focus on a new line of lamps, which by the way is stunning, and custom-made pottery for local customers. In addition to this and other new ventures, Jill was also inspired to create a really cool line of products for her Etsy shop… I must say this is one talented woman!

As you probably know I have a lovely monthly fix: my Domino magazine! I look forward to it and go over the articles again and again... the features are always very well edited and the photography superb!

This month's issue was wonderful! The first surprise was to find the wonderful Kelly Wearstler on the cover (one of the best young decorators out there... exquisite taste)! As I browsed the pages, I found such wonderful selection of homes, rooms, and ideas for the decor aficionado like me... this is truly one of my favorite issues. By the way, I am so much looking forward to owning my very own "Domino The Book of Decorating" copy available October the 14!!!

Anyway, after enjoying the magazine I decided to go back to posting Treasuries and created this "The Beat of Chic" list inspired by the colors, rooms, textures and overall decor found in the magazine's October Issue (by the way, I love Bloomingdale's new Home decor marketing, that's where I got the Treasury's title from)... So after every "bump on the way" good things come; while we did have to evacuate due to Hurricane Ike I was also able to take some wonderful pictures in Austin - truth is I was trying to keep my mind busy not to worry as much about coming back to damages in Houston, and my camera was a great escape!

Hurricane Ike - Area Pictures

Just as I had promised, here are some pictures from the damages suffered after hurricane Ike (Houston/Pearland area). I have not been able to go to downtown for we've had citywide curfews, gas shortage and lots to do at home, but might be able to go today and take some shots... we are still waiting for the adjuster to come to our house, in the meantime we are praying for the rain to stay away and hoping our temporary measure will protect the roof... hope everyone is having a safe weekend!

Recovering from Hurricane Ike

... So we ran away from Ike and were safe in Austin for 3 days; thank God we are all okay, but our home has some roof and water damage. As everyone else in the Galveston/Houston area, we are waiting for an insurance adjuster to come and assess the damage, but might have to wait weeks before the insurance company comes and repairs begin. In the meantime, we have cleaned debris, replanted our landscape, dried the attic, garage and studio, and taken temporary measures to protect our roof and prevent further damage...

I will be uploading some pictures of the area to share with my readers... please keep all the Galveston/Houston area residents in your prayers for this will be a long recovery. We thank God all our family and loved ones are safe, we now have to work hard and save for repairs. Slowly but surely our area is “getting back on track” and opening up for service, though mine and my husband's jobs are still closed, and so is my child's school; only two gas stations in the area are open with mile long lines, but I am happy to share our electricity and water have been up and running for a couple of days!

Little Pleasures - Shaheen Bagh Estate, India

Discovering this lovely Estate in India happened by mere accident... I cannot remember what I was looking for, but somehow ended up finding a picture of one of the Estate's rooms and was absolutely taken!

Shaheen Bagh is the private country home of an ornithologist and a graphic designer (with exquisite taste), and is located in India's Doon Valley near the Tons River (about 5 1/2 hours by Train from New Delhi). The rooms in the beautiful home and adjacent cottage are available for vacation rentals, and what a better place to relax and enjoy than a gorgeous Indian estate in the middle of exotic nature and wildlife!?

The 7-acre estate and gardens are grazed with breathtaking flora, including fruit orchards, beautiful verandahs, watercourses, ponds and walking trails... not to mention a delightful pool overlooking the mountains! Oh, and have I mention yummy meals are included with the stay? How about taking a day trip to a wildlife reserve or bird-watching at the nearby river? Just look at the pictures... aren't the rooms, decoration, and landscapes amazing!???

Spending the week at Shaheen Bagh would be such a treat! I've never been to India, but I now have one more beautiful reason to do so... I should probably start saving for another trip on my ever growing travel wish list!

"Botany Study" is the name of my latest photograph to be Etsy-listed, and is also the perfect description for my current photographic mood! Lately I've been drawn towards nature photography and macros; it is captivating and oh so inspiring, not to mention calming… I could spend hours photographing nature, but I do have a teaching day job and not as much spare time as I would like to.

Nevertheless, we started the new school year and have been extremely busy with a new group of students, parents, and my own child’s school responsibilities, hence I have not posted as often as I like to. I promise, though, I have not forgotten about you! As we get back into more functional routines at work and home I'll return to my regular posting schedule...

I recently read in an article that the color blue helps to calm and sedate, cools one down, and aids intuition. I do not know if was one thing or the other, but I have definitely been feeling "blue"; and I do not mean sad, but in a blue decorating state-of-mind. I have always liked the color blue, but for some reason I did not decorate a full room in shades of blue at home. I do, however, have my son's playroom, room, and kitchen with contemporary accents of blue...

I would like to read your thoughts on decorating with blue… maybe sleeping in a soothing blue room or painting a wall or two blue? I certainly found the perfect inspiration in the beautiful rooms above! I have to say, the Britannia burner, Anthropologie’s drop chandelier and Lauderdale’s Habitat mirror are all stunning! If I owned them, I would have loved to incorporate all 3 in one same room, possibly to create a kitchen similar to the one from Domino magazine. One last interesting fact: People are often more productive in blue rooms”… maybe I ought to paint the study blue???

Little Pleasures - Boutique Hotel: JIA Shanghai

Monday, Monday... the weekend never seems to be long enough, eh? And with a Tropical Storm heading Houston's way I am little less than thrilled about the beginning of the week. Nevertheless, today was a pretty sunny day and there is something that I am very much looking forward to: The Olympics in China! Can't wait for the Opening Ceremony, which I've read, will be spectacular!!!

And since I am in a Chinese state of mind, I wanted to post on this little gem I found, courtesy of the new issue of Travel + Leisure: The JIA Shanghai. I saw but one picture of it on the magazine and was absolutely taken! As you can imagine, I went online to read all about it... and was not a bit disappointed!

This beautiful 55-room boutique Hotel is located in central Shanghai in a striking 1920's building, which sets a nice contrast against the modern buildings in the City. The hotel's name -JIA- is a literal translation for "HOME" in Chinese, and that's exactly how the rooms make you feel... at home (except a bit more luxurious)! I absolutely LOVE the thoughtfully orchestrated decoration!

Now if the exquisite contemporary decoration and top notch in-room technology was not enough, the hotel also counts with a Spa (a full day of pampering please), a rooftop terrace, and a signature Italian restaurant! It is no wonder that JIA Shanghai has been featured in some of the best magazines and websites - Fortune lists it as one of the "Best new Business Hotels", the NY Times names it as a recommended stay, and Kiwi Collection as a "WOW" pick-

... This week I'll be dreaming of a trip to Shanghai, with Penthouse Suite accommodations on the JIA if you may!!! How's that for an exciting week!?

Treasury - Muted Nature in Yellow and Gray

Remember last week I blogged on my Coffee Treasury? Well, not only did I go on a coffee frenzy for about a week (and I mean it... I was craving coffee left and right), but I also happen to find some new Etsy favorites, and best of all, new Etsy friends.

The wonderful photographs above are from the talented and award winning Toni Hopper, also known as Photogypsy320 on Etsy (who by the way also enjoys coffee - Starbucks Frapuccino and flavored blends). Toni is a Duncan, Oklahoma based artists whose work is truly dynamic and inspiring; the passion for her craft translates into exceptional pictures! Truly multi-talented, her extensive work ranges from photojournalism, portrait studio, wedding pictures, to nature photography (she’s even dedicated to photographing pets, but her all-time favorite subjects are her children and grandchildren).

I have to confess, I have a true passion for traveling and fashion/glamour photography. You might be wondering how both these interests ended up in the same post... well, through the past couple of years I've found my perfect fix for both passions in Travel & Leisure Magazine and a very talented photographer, Christopher Sturman.

See Mr. Sturman works his lens for Travel & Leisure Magazine, grazing us with outstanding travel, fashion and landscape photography (and with such talent it comes as no surprise that his work has been featured in other major magazines like Vogue and W). Little Pleasures - Vacation Getaway: Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico

So today I’ve really felt like a little vacation on the beach, a nice vacation... a getaway to Punta the Mita's Four Seasons Resort (near Puerto Vallarta) would have been the perfect retreat!

Growing up I often vacationed in Puerto Vallarta, Bucerias and Punta Mita. Of course back then the area looked a little different (mostly virgin beaches with small developments), particularly Punta Mita which has substantially grown to feature outstanding luxury developments like the Four Seasons Resort.

Located in the beautiful turquoise Pacific just 42 kilometers from Vallarta, the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita counts with first class accommodations, amenities, and breathtaking views! I've heard the spa is amazing, and if you are a golf aficionado, the Resort has one of the most spectacular golf courses including a small island as one of the greens (see first picture)!!!

Waves and Sand - Refreshing Surprise!

Right in the middle of a hectic week I was pleasantly surprised to find that one of my newly listed Photographic Art Prints was featured in two wonderful treasuries! The photograph is "Waves and Sand", and was taken in Tulm, Mexico on a beautiful Mexican afternoon. The print brings back priceless memories of family time and my wonderful Father who was still with us then; this is truly a special photograph for me and was happy to know others found inspiration on it as well.

Following favorite designer Jonathan Adler's advice, this morning I put together a lively orangey Treasury with the purpose to "ADD SOME ZEST TO YOUR NEST". Why orange? First the "Zest" (as in Orange Zest), and second of all it is one of my all-time favorite decorating colors - bright, fun, and a MOST for at least one of your home spaces! Orange accents really add up warmth to a room; just look at some of these inspirational pictures for proof (including my own living room)... pure bliss!-

Little Pleasures - Favorite Designer: Jonathan Adler

A few years ago I came upon some of Jonathan Adler's pottery; ever since, I've been a fan of his designs! Through the years his lines have expanded to include not only pottery, but also furniture, lighting, rugs, pillows, throws and more. Mr. Adler and his design team also offer Interior Design services, and have worked on projects such as the awesome "Parker" Hotel in Palm Springs, maternity fashion designer Liz Lange's apartment, and fashion designer Trina Turk's store.

Jonathan Adler's keen eye for beautiful lines and happy living environments simply makes you smile! I specially love his use of color and tasteful references to Mid-Century and Scandinavian design (C. Jere for example). His book, "My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living", has been a source of inspiration for me, as am sure for many other Decor aficionados; with catchy phrases such as "be true to yourself", "mix and match with panache" and "banish the blues with pink and orange" he carries on giving simple, practical, fun, and grand design advice to last for decades!

He has an online store as well as a handful of locations from Miami to New York... I am keeping my fingers crossed for a future store in Houston! If you have not yet bought his book, you should! I predict happy smiles and a desire to redecorate after you read it! Seriously talented and amazingly fun Jonathan Adler...

Wednesday Morning Coffee

I am sure most of you are having busy weeks, so here's a nice cup of " Café au Lait " to liven up your Wednesday morning! This was the lovely and yummy cup of coffee I recently ordered at "Croissant Brioche", one of my favorite cafes in Houston (check the detail of the heart-shaped foam - so pretty). If you are in the Houston area don't forget to visit Croissant Brioche in “Rice Village”; their coffee is outstanding (just like in Paris), and so are their Croque Monsieurs (one of their not-so-French features, the tortilla soup, is an all-time favorite...not to mention the desserts). Ok, so I am really craving now... would love to hear your recommendations on good coffee shops around the globe! By the way, “Havanna” Coffee shops in Buenos Aires have a “cortado doble” (small latte) that’s to die for – pair that with a white alfajor - what a treat! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Celebrating the USA - David Adickes Presidential Sculptures

As a belated tribute to the USA and the 4th of July, here are pictures of some of the outstanding Presidential Heads/Busts by renowned artist David Adickes (Kennedy, Lincoln, Roosevelt). The sculptures are located in Pearland, TX -a fast growing Houston suburb- and will be part of Pearland's "Waterlights District" & "Presidential Park". Lucky I, the future Presidential Park is only a mere 5 minutes away from home! By the way, David Adickes is also the author of the amazing "Beatles" sculpture found at the Artist's SculpturWorx Studio in Houston... such a talented artist! I hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July!

Nature at its Best - Weekend in East Texas

I’ve been on this area of Texas repeated occasions, and while I've always admired the landscape, I had forgotten to look closely into the amazing details of this area’s flora… I could not set the camera away and must have taken over 300 pictures in a matter of 2 hours!

Beautiful Homes - The Nonchalant Mom: Carina Schott

I truly enjoyed browsing this month's Domino Magazine . One of my favorite articles was the feature on Carina Schott's beautiful home! Photographer Melanie Acevedo did a great job capturing the fun, warm, Scandinavian-modern interiors and exteriors of this Rhode Island home (and Carina Schott's fun shop!).

Not only does Carina Schott have great tasted in home decor, but she's also got a quirky eye for modern children's toys and fashion! She is the creator and owner of "The Nonchalant Mom", a website and online shop (with a store in Wakefield), that shares wonderful parenting ideas and offers beautiful products for children, mommies, and home. Some of the featured sellers are Nonchalant Kids - Schott's own line of children's clothing, Hable Construction, Lucky Fish, Virgina Johnson, Thomas Paul, Marimekko, Kragh Rosenberg and Kit + Lili, amongst other wonderful brands! Crystals, Rocks, and Jewerly - Inspirational Colors and Textures

Oh my! Was I in for a treat when I visited the new exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science - “GEOPALOOZA- A Hard Rock Anthology"! Upon approaching the exhibit’s entrance I could just but admire in awe the gigantic and colorful geodes and beautiful mineral crystals... wow, speechless (really)! The exhibit also showcased natural wonders such as meteor rocks, fossils, and fluorescent rocks... all very interesting!

What can I tell you? My dear Father had a special appreciation for Earth’s natural wonders; I grew up amongst mineral rock books, engineering, and Formula 1 Racing (and of course The Beatles, music, Arts, and sports)! As I walked through the exhibit I couldn’t help but remember wonderful memories of cave exploration with my Dad… He is not longer with us, however his books, photographs, teachings and beautiful collection of rocks and crystals continue to remind us of his passion for life and nature's beauty.

You may now understand just how much I appreciated the Museum's compilation of our Earth's Natural treasures! I felt at home and ease amongst these beauties; not only were the crystals exceptional, but the exhibit itself was pretty cool if I may say... a little bit Rock n' Roll, a little bit Disco, and lot of gleam and color! If you live in the Houston area, I really recommend visiting the exhibit... a great summer outing (and a grand way to beat the high temperatures!).

Browsing through the internet more than a year ago, I accidentally found a picture of an Orla Kieley Store Display and was automatically drawn to the Designer's bright, bold, fun and colorful prints! Ever since, I've been following the Company's collections... but it was not until recently that I happily found their USA online store AND the fact that Anthropology is now carrying a selection of their beautiful handbags. Needless to say I desperately wanted to own an Orla Kiely handbag, so for Mother's day my husband treated me to my very own "Multi Stem Shoulder Bag"... pure bliss... thank you Honey!

For those of you who are not familiar with the Designer --- Based in England, for more than a decade Orla Kiely has been delighting customers in Europe and around the Globe with her fresh and colorful designs and patterns. Everyone has their own little pleasures… One of my favorites is visiting Anthropologie; not only are their items unique (and “eye candy"), but the store itself is gorgeous! The displays change almost every day and are a pleasure to browse through… inspirational! I absolutely love indulging in a visit to Anthropologie!

Their new upholstery and furniture lines are soooo beautiful! I salute the Company’s buyers and creative directors for such a wonderful store and website; from clothing, home decor, kitchenware, accessories to books... this has been and will continue to be one of my all-time favorites!

OKAY, so I really enjoy listing Treasuries... I know, I know... truly there are many talented artists on ETSY whose products I enjoy/want/admire. Setting up a Treasury is a good way for me to relax, discover new ETSY sellers, and give other fellow talented crafters/artist more exposure.

This time I decided to put together a list named "Let's do the Congo" - A Tribute to Africa; as I explained on the Treasury comments I've not had the opportunity to visit Africa yet, however I've always been drawn towards it's rich art, music and colors... so as a tribute to my wonderful African friends and all the beautiful arts, crafts, nature and music this Continent has to offer the World, I created this Treasury... geniet!
